Roman roads were generally constructed in four layers. The topmost layer consisted of a pavement of flat ,hard stones, concrete or pebbles that were set in mortar. These roads were usually constructed in straight lines but were sometimes known to curve. Roads started out being used to help the millitary get places faster. Buildings were inspired by Greek civilisatiion. The Romans were the ones that created concrete.
